Changchun – Yesterday, the first snow of the year has fallen down from the sky, almost by fixed appointment. In the minds of the local people in Changchun, 15 November is indeed engrained as the first white day of the new winter season.
Watching the snow coming down in Jingyuetan Park, it is like weaving a fine curtain, covering the Vasa Museum’s mahogany walls and carefully stroking the historic journey of Vasaloppet China. Yesterday’s first snow carpet in any case sets the scene beautifully for what will be a marvelous 10th anniversary of Asia’s biggest cross country skiing event come 2 January 2012.
In addition, Jingyuetan’s cross-country ski snowmaking project also started today. Reports from the field suggest that as the weather is getting colder and colder, a series of Vasa programmes like cross-country skiing education and training programmes will be fully operational in the course of next week.
