Vasaloppet China will be held in Changchun for the 7th time this winter. The date is set for the 2nd January 2009. This is the ski event where everyone can participate! Vasaloppet started in Sweden as a cross country ski event where skiers go 90 km from the town Sälen all the way to the finish in Mora town.
Vasaloppet is a participatory event, which means that both elite and amateur skiers can participate. In recent years, Vasaloppet has added many races to the schedule such as Blueberry Vasa for “Blueberries” (jokingly meaning “beginner” in Swedish), Girls Vasa and Childrens Vasa.
Vasaloppet China, 2nd Jan, 2009
Vasaloppet China is 50 km with Blueberry Vasa 16.7 and Children’s Vasa. There is also a Fun Ski where you can go for a shorter race of 2.2 km with ski equipment rental included in the registration fee, so that everyone can join! As the event in Sweden, Vasaloppet China in Changchun is also a participatory event as it serves as the fourth stage on “Tour de Ski China”, a ski tour for Elite skiers which takes place from the 28th Dec to 7th Jan.
Participants in Vasaloppet China can, apart from experience the joy and fun of skiing also experience the greatness of nature as the event takes part in the National Forest Park of Jingyuetan. The park is filled with amazing snow sculptures in the winter.
Changchun also has a lot to offer in sightseeing apart from Jingyuetan, such as The Last Emperor’s Palace, which was the place where the last emperor of China’s Qing Dynasty lived during his time as “puppet emperor” of the Japanese Manchukuo during Word War 2.
Other highlights of the event is the New Years Banquet which includes dinner, drinks and spectacular performances of chinese singing, dancing, acrobatics etc. There will also be a banquet on the evening of the 2nd Jan with Vasa Bar later in the evening.
