The global Covid19 pandemic has wreaked havoc in the sports, cultural and entertainment industry this year. Only a minority of planned non-professional sports events are taking place, with a much-reduced scope, and most have been cancelled all together out of safety fears.
Following weeks of reflection and discussion with China National Sports and all relevant authorities of Changchun city, we are therefore quite pleased to announce that Vasaloppet China 2021 will be organized in two different ways:
Vasaloppet China 2021 will be organized December 29th, 2020 on our tracks in Jingyuetan Park as usual, but due to international travel restrictions, only Chinese participants and foreign expats in China will be able to participate. It is possible to sign up via the online registration. The reason for organizing the event already in late December is that Vasaloppet China will be the main event of the opening ceremony for “The 7th National Public Ice and Snow Season 2020”, which is a national kick-off for the Chinese public winter sport activities for the winter 2020/2021. The Opening ceremony will be live broadcasted in national CCTV television.

Vasaloppet China – Home Edition 2021 will be organized as a virtual event, you can take part from your home place and you can choose from three different distances and make it on skis, roller skis, SkiErg, or you can run or walk. The event period is from December 29th, 2020 to January 31st, 2021. As we are part of Worldloppet series, our virtual event is also one stage from the Worldloppet Virtual Racing League.

As organizer we are happy to manage the event like this and after this we look forward to the 20th anniversary of Vasaloppet China in 2022, hopefully then possible also for international participants to join for great moments in Changchun.
